4 Thai Drama Channels to Watch the Best Dramas | Part 1

Updated: Aug 20, 2021

I didn’t really care which Thai TV Channels to choose from when I started watching lakorns or Thai Dramas. I’m not from Thailand, I am just a mere spectator outside that country, so the channel wasn’t a thing.

I did notice the channel logos in each drama though. I took notice but was never really into it. But the more I watched Thai dramas, on online free streaming sites, the more I was able to categorize Thai lakorns according to drama channels.

And since I had grown fond of Thai dramas, I started to get interested with drama channels and I was able to separate the quality of the lakorn, the actors and actresses, and other stuff, depending on the TV channel.

So, here it goes... This is my top 4 Thai drama channels you can find beautifully made dramas or lakorns:

Thai Drama Channel GMMTV or GMM 25

This is more of like a youth oriented Thai channel. Most of the dramas entail about stories which targets the younger generation.

I was actually confused at first because I could also see actors and actresses from OneHD, another channel which I will be discussing on next, in GMMTV or GMM 25 dramas. And then I read in one forum that actors or actresses from OneHD could cross and do projects in this channel as well.

It seemed to me that both channels are sort of like sister channel. I’m not sure though. Please leave a comment down below in the comment section to correct me on this one.

Popular Actors and Actresses

Now, popular Thai dramas from this channel include those of this beautiful Thai superstar, Baifern Pimchanok. I first watched her in the 2010 hit movie, Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Does it ring a bell now? She’s good in cute romantic comedies. And you’d find lots of lakorns similar to that in GMMTV. Recent popular drama by Baifern, which are really good ones by the way, include The Sand Princess and Yuttakarn Prab Nang Marn.

You would also find good romantic comedies which starred these beautiful actresses, Vill Wannarot and Esther Supreeleela. I don’t know much about the actors but Push or Puttichai Kasetsin is big in this channel and there’s also Sukrit Wisetkaew and Tao Sattaphong.

Popular GMM TV or GMM 25 Thai Channel Dramas

I will only share some of their popular drama so you would get an idea as to what kind of Thai Lakorns they produce.

You’re My Destiny

This is the Thai remake of the infamous Taiwanese drama, Fated to Love You.

The Sand Princess

An orphan girl met a nice rich guy. The two got so close but the guy would order her around in exchange for money. Though she got sick of him at times, she succumbed to his orders since she needed money for her tuition. The guy got a girl pregnant and she dropped the baby at his doorstep one day. As he was about to get engaged, he could not take the baby in. He asked his orphan BFF to take care of the baby, offering her 2 million and a condo. She did not agree to him until he threatened he’d send the baby to the orphanage. She didn’t want that so she agreed to him.

Years after, the baby grew up and was still under her care. She then happened to meet her rich guy friend’s older brother who had been her neighbor for years. The brother later discovered that the father of her child was his younger brother. She had no clue that they were brothers. Apparently, the younger brother was engaged to the daughter of their major stock holder, and if his scandal would get out, that major stake holder would pull all of his investments from their company. The older brother, also the President of their company, would try to resolve the issue by getting into a fake or contract marriage with the orphan girl.

Yuttakarn Prab Nang Marn (Devil Angel)

The heroine, a daughter of the owner of a film production company, was literally the devil boss. She’d throw tantrums even in public and would instantly fire employees at her own personal discretion. Not to mention, she had a foul mouth as well. She just fired her Secretary and was looking for a new one. The male lead, trap in a huge debt, needed a job and applied for the position. She was reluctant at first because she never had a male Secretary, but she was quite impressed by his crafty skills. He definitely had ways to tame her down.

There are also a lot of romance series like My dear Loser Series and Ugly Duckling Series in this drama channel. And they seemed to have many young actors and actresses as well with the tons of drama series they are making every year.

Find more details about the above Thai dramas mentioned in the video above. I have included synopsis, lead actors and actresses, and more.

Romantic Scenes

This channel is not too conservative when it comes to romance scenes. If you have watched any dramas in this channel, you would probably agree to this. Out of the four channels I will be mentioning here, this one seems to have the most confidence in exploiting their actors more when it comes to intimate scenes.

OneHD or One31

Thai drama channel 31 is a personal favorite channel! They may not have the biggest names in the business, but, IMO, they have those absolutely beautiful stories to tell. OneHD is a sister company to GMM channel, so it’s quite normal to see actors from this channel do projects in GMM TV or GMM 25 as well.

Some of their Popular Thai Channel Dramas

This is a drama channel comparable to the other ones that I would be mentioning after this one.

Some of the best lakorns I have watched in this drama channel include:

Leh Ratree (A Woman’s Trickery, Love’s Trickery)

A contract marriage drama. The heroine’s father, addicted to gambling, stole money from his boss’ company. The male lead, the boss, was a rich heir who could not bear a child with his wife. Though very much in love, he later ditches his untruthful wife. He had a mom who was eager for him to give her an heir who would be next in line.

The male lead’s family would discover the heroine’s father’s wrongdoing and would have him pay for it. But the father, who knew they wanted an heir but couldn’t bear one, made a deal to them, offering them the heroine, his sweet daughter, to marry his boss and bear his child who would be the next heir to their lineage.

Ngao Asoke (Asoke’s Shadow, Love Under the Shadow)

Historical and arranged marriage drama. The heroine, as a young girl, adored the male lead, a humble and compassionate man. He got engaged to a woman he was crazy about, but he opted to study abroad to avoid is controlling mom after the death of his father. He would exchange letters with his fiancé not knowing it was the little girl he was exchanging letters with.

The little girl got orphaned and was taken under the care of his fiance’s family. His fiancé was too lazy to write him a letter so she had the heroine write on her behalf. Both got to know each other too well. Years later, he came back and they would meet again.

Sud Sai Pan (End of the String)

An arranged marriage drama. This is a story of female twins, one good and the other bad. The male lead fell in love with the bad twin but she left him out of the blue. Years after, the good twin appeared to him and he insisted she was the woman he was in love with. He tried to convince her that they were in love. But she didn’t know him at all and she didn’t know she had a twin either.

She kept on rejecting his advances and he later realized that she pretends not to know him to leave him because he was poor. He started resenting her. But he was later discovered as the son of a rich man. His late father was an only heir to a rich family. He became rich got into an arranged marriage with the good twin.

Rak Fun Thalob (Love Chaotically)

This was a hilarious comedic story of two girl best friends. BFF1, lucky in love, was getting married. BFF2 was a NBSB, and most of the guys she liked became BFF1’s boyfriends. She also fell for the guy BFF1 was getting married to. But she kept everything a secret except to her BFF boss at work. BFF1’s boyfriend cheated on her which led her to cut the wedding off. While both were mourning on it over a drink, they met a psyche who seemed to have known everything about them even if they had not met each other before.

BFF2 wouldn’t believe until the psyche almost revealed how she liked all of BFF1’s exes. The psyche told her to visit 19 temples to reverse the curse on her or she won’t ever find a man in her lifetime. She forces BFF1 to come visit with her the nine temples the psyche said. Along the way, they would meet a nice guy, and BFF2 would do everything to get him. But there was one problem, her boy-magnet BFF1 was standing in her way. BBF2, the novice in dating, would compete against BFF1, the pro when it comes to men.

Hua Jai Sila (Heart of Stone)

A revenge drama about a boy who was a son of a mistress. His mom died and he lived with his dad’s family. He was unwelcomed, unloved, and maltreated. But there was one girl who made him feel loved and accepted. One night, on a confrontation with his stepmom at a river, he fell from the bridge and drowned into the river. Everyone thought he died, but he survived and was taken care of by his good aunt.

Years after, he came back with a new identity. He became rich and was running a casino and a VIP night club. He would meet that young girl again, who grew up pretty well. On the other hand, he didn’t want to run into his step family again until his step brother messed up with one of her female employees in the club. That girl died which ignited his disgust with the family. He would seek revenge for everything they have done. Just one problem though, his childhood friend would stand in the way.

OneHD 31Popular Actors and Actresses

They have really good and beautiful actresses. At the top of my list would be Vill Wannarot. She’s strikingly beautiful. She’s quite famous in China as well. There’s also the charming Esther Supreeleela. I love her sweet and bubbly portrayal of her character. She is definitely fun to watch in both romance drama and romantic comedy. And then there’s Ferny Nopjira who gains more popularity with her recent drama, heart of stone.

For actors, Push is big in this channel as well. I think Sean Jindachot is back with One31 as well. He made dramas in Channel 7 in the recent years, but it seems like he’s going to do another drama with this channel as well. I can only hope for a Sean and Esther reunion. And then there’s this new popular guy, Tor Thanapop. Well, he’s not entirely new, but he seems to be like Pope Thanawat who’s been around for some time and then ultimately got his biggest break with Hua Jai Sila.

And, how could I forget Sunny Suwanmetanon, who is probably better known with his hit Thai movies, I Fine Thank You Love You, Mr. Hurt, and Brother of the Year. He did a couple of drama series in One31 channel with Kham Tob Samrab Sawan and Ruk Chut Jai Nai Chuckchern.

Romantic Scenes

The romance scenes in this drama usually depends on an era, I mean, like Ngao Asoke, which was set up in the early 60s or 70s era. There were still sweet kiss scenes but not too much. It was pretty much enough though, IMO.

And then there’s Hua Jai Sila or Leh Ratree which had strong tensions between the leads. There would be bickering, slaps, kisses, teasing, etc. The intimate scenes just lives up to what is needed. They’re not as bold as GMM TV, in my opinion. They can be in some dramas, but not for the most part.

This article is quite lengthy already so I decided to split this into two. CLICK HERE for PART 2 of this article on Thai drama channels to watch beautiful lakorns or drama series from.
