The cameras keep on rolling as we are set on a new treat with these 6 new and confirmed Thai dramas to watch if not this year, 2020, it may be next year, 2021. And most of these features your favorites, from Yaya and Mario to Mark and Taew!
2020 has pretty much slowed down everything, from schooling to businesses, without the exemption of TV drama production.
Some of these Thai dramas have been on production (shooting) since last year to early of this year, and probably halted at the start of the pandemic. Production has stalled and, as a result, it may not be feasible for the productions to release them this year.
Other lakorns in this list has just been confirmed this year and are still in pre-production. Nevertheless, they are also set to be released, probably, in 2021.
And so, let’s get right to it!
2020-2021 Upcoming Thai Lakorn Dramas
6) Sroi Sabunnga
This lakorn is a reunion project of Baifern Pimchanok and Nine Naphat after the huge success of their 2019 Movie, “Friendzone.” Big thanks to Channel 3 for bringing this two together.
They have been shooting already, which probably stalled because of the pandemic. This may be one of the lakorns to be released late this year if not for the pandemic.
It is produced by J Makers. Die hard lakorn fans are not really fond of this production. Some are vocal how the production suck when it comes to producing lakorns. But then this story seems to be based on a book written by the same author who wrote the highly successful Thai Drama, Maturot Lohgan (Gentleman Thief).
There is nothing much told about this drama. What we know for now is that it is a Period Romance Drama. No full synopsis is out yet, although what’s been publicized is that this will be a story of an ambitious girl who will hurt a man at the expense of her ambition. And despite that, the man, because of his love, cannot get rid of her.
Baifern and Nine take it from big to small screen. Their chemistry is already proven on the big screen. Let’s hope that it transcends in the small screen.
5) Jark Sadtroo Soo Hua Jai
From Channel 3, let’s move to Channel 7. Aum Patchrapa is finally back on TV after 3 long years! And she will be paired with the dashingly handsome Mik Thongraya. This is their first pairing onscreen.
The two have been shooting this drama until the pandemic. Production probably stalled as well. But then most have recently resumed to production. This is another drama that we believe may have been released this year if not for the pandemic. Hence, if not 2020, then 2021.
There is no English title released yet, as well as the number of episodes. But this is an action romance Thai drama. Mik will play as a gunman whose first target is Aum. She happens to be the sister of his ex-girlfriend. In the process, he will be conflicted whether he’ll kill or save her.
Lastly, let’s not ignore the fact the age gap between Aum and Mik is insane. Mik is born in 1992 while Aum is born in 1978. This year, they will be 28 and 42 respectively. Do the math. Yep, 14 years! But, age is just a number. Aum still looks young for her age and Mik looks a bit mature, so it may work, who knows. Also, this isn’t the first time she’s paired with a younger guy. Besides, this is a huge break for Mik to be paired with the biggest name of Channel 7.
4) Karat Ruk (Carat Love)
Another one who is back on TV, this time, for Channel 3 is Ms. Anne Thongprasom, who was once hailed as the Princess of Thai entertainment. Her last project was way back in 2015 with Ab Ruk Online, which was a romantic comedy.
And for the second time, she will be working with another young actor, James Jirayu, the baby face handsome actor. Their age gap is fascinating as well. James is born in 1993 while Ms. Anne is born in 1976. Do the math again. Yep, 17 long years!
There are no details out yet about the story if this lakorn. So it’s not yet sure if these two will be a couple in this drama. If you remember back in Ab Ruk Online, she has a love line with Mark Prin, but the two didn’t really end up together. Her chemistry with Peter was lit, btw.
Nevertheless, Karat Ruk is a romantic comedy, so she will be paired with someone. Though the synopsis is not out yet, according to interviews, James will play as a young architecture student who will be Ms. Anne’s secretary. Ms. Anne, on the other hand, will play as a divorcee with a 5-year-old son. She is really good in comedies, it would be interesting to see her alongside James Ji and see how that would turn out.
As of writing, shooting haven’t started yet (as it seems), but they have started fittings and photo shoots, as stills have already been released. By the looks of it, this should be released by 2021. Ms. Anne will have her hands full as she will be acting on screen and producing another lakorn at the same time.
This drama isn’t under her production, Thong Entertainment, but under Good Feeling Production. Bella and Pope’s new lakorn, which is set to be released this month or early next month, is actually produced by Good Feeling. Pope and Bella starred the highest rated Thai drama of 2018, Bpoop Phaeh Saniwaat.
3) Ku Kaen San Ruk (The Beloved Foes or My Enemy, My Love)
Another reunion project in Channel 7 for Mike Pattaradet and Mookda Narinrak for the lakorn, Ku Jaen San Ruk. The two first worked together in 2019 with the hit forced marriage, action, fantasy, romance Thai Drama, Maturot Loghan or Gentleman Thief.
Ku Kaen San Ruk is a remake of the 2011 drama, with the same title, which starred Channel 7 superstars, Aum Patcharapa and Chakrit Yamnarm. This is a romantic comedy with 19 episodes. It seems like it is still under pre-production, as of this writing, and should be one of the lakorns to be released in 2021.
This is actually an entertaining romantic comedy to watch. Mike will play as Songkran, a rich single-dad real estate businessman. Because of his past heartbreak, he has turned into a playboy. Mook, on the other hand, will play as Ingdao, a stingy hardworking farm girl. People find her ugly because of her unkempt look and that big black mole on one side of her face.
Songkran wooed Ingdao’s younger sister, Ingjan, under the pretense of getting something from her. He discovered that she was the daughter of the landholder who owned the big piece of land he badly wanted. As she was so in love with him, she gave him the rights to the land. After that, he dumped her. Ingjan then attempted to commit suicide.
Ingdao stormed to Bangkok to confront Songkran. With the help of her hi-so friend, Moddang, she would transform herself into a beautiful woman. She would scheme a plan to seduce Songkran to avenge her sister and take their land back.
The original lakorn was actually entertaining. It was also a hit. We can’t wait to see Mike and Mook in a romantic comedy. They had flashes of rom com in Maturot Lohgan, and their chemistry was undeniably good. They can definitely pull this one off!
Also, the second leads in this lakorn were hilarious. Moddang was a comedic character and she had great chemistry with her partner in the drama as well. It’s interesting to know that the character will be played by the beautiful Jaibua Hidding, who played the role of Mik’s sister in Sapai Import.
2) Bad Romeo
After the airing the last episode of the 2020 Marriage Contract Romantic Comedy Thai Drama, My Husband In Law, Ms. Anne Thongprasom did’t waste time and released a photo of Yaya Sperbund and Mario Maurer for the new Lakorn under Thong Entertainment, Bad Romeo.
They have started shooting already as most production seemed to have resumed lately. This should be one of the lakorns we can expect to be released in 2021. This is another Channel 3 Thai Lakorn that is a Period, romance, and fantasy drama.
It tells a story of a psychologist, played by Mario, who deals with his deaf mute housemaid, played by Yaya. He tries to uncover her story as to what led to her condition. In the process, he will meet new people who were haunted by their pasts.
When one of them dies, he starts to lose control over his body. It seems like he is able to go to the past and discovered who he was in his past life, as well as the people he met in the present. He uncovers that their lives were entangled in the past, and that he was an architect hired to build a huge door of a city. He discovers the ugly truth that, in the process, he sacrificed his own wife and the people he met in the present. And then years later, those people were reborn including his wife, Yaya.
We remember having goosebumps after reading the end of the synopsis for the first time.
This is the first pairing of Yaya and Mario on screen. It’s actually surprising as to why this is the first time that the two has been paired. But, finally, their fans get to watch them together as a couple on screen.
In all honesty, not to discredit the earlier lakorns, but our favorite lakorn produced by Thong Entertainment is When a Man Loves a Woman with Kimmy and James Ma, and the last one that find really entertaining was Ab Ruk Online with Ms, Anne, Peter, Mark, and Kimmy.
The Crown Princess and My Husband In Law were both decent dramas, but we were not as fascinated by them as compared to the previous ones that were mentioned. We love Ms. Anne and her production, we hope for the best for Bad Romeo. We do believe that Yaya and Mario can pull it off!
1) Game Lah Torrachon (Game Hunting the Villain / Wicked)
We’re sorry if we can’t hide our love for Mark Prin and Taew Natapohn, placing their new lakorn at number 1. This is a new action, romance Thai Drama for Channel 3.
They have been shooting since February of 2020. Again, production probably stalled because of the pandemic. For sure, we’ll get to watch this in 2021.
This is the second project of Mark and Taew with their first one back in 2017 (Rak Nakara), which was a Period Drama. This time, the two will play as a couple in a modern drama. And we can’t wait to watch it!
Taew and Mark’s chemistry is lit! Both have that bad boy, bad girl vibe. Taew seems to pair well with anyone, nevertheless. This action lakorn will definitely have a lot of swag in it.
With regard to the plot of the story, there are no official details yet. Although, rumor has it that it may be a remake of Prajan Lai Payak (Tiger Moon), a 2010 hit drama starring Weir Sukollawat and Aum Patcharapa. This drama is about a girl (Aum) who witnessed her dad getting shot by drug dealers. She grew up and was brought into a new family. She and her sister went on to become Police Women after finishing their studies. The two were then trained under a handsome Police Officer (Weir). Her sister fell for him at first sight, but he was secretly enamored by her. And because of her excellent skills, he made her his new assistant, replacing the old one that got killed by drug dealers.
But then again, no official synopsis is released as of this writing.
